How to calculate the cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA?
First, let’s take a look at how to calculate the weight of the product. There are two weighing methods:
Actual weight
Volume and weight
Basically, when you ship a product by courier, the courier charges you based on the dimensional weight or actual weight of the product.There are many special products, which are large in size but light in actual weight, and the courier company will charge a lot of fees according to the volume weight.
This is the formula for volumetric weight: Volumetric Weight
= length (cm) * width (cm) x height (cm) / 5000
The example is as follows
Volumetric weight: If your product box size is 50*50*50cm, the actual weight is 10kg. If you want to ship this box from China to Amazon FBA, the courier company will charge you 25kg weight (50*50*50cm)/5000=25kg) instead of the actual weight 10kg.
Actual weight: The size of your product box is 30*25*25cm, and the actual weight is 18kg. If you want to ship this box from China to Amazon FBA, the courier company will charge 18kg according to the actual weight, not 3.75kg. Kilograms (20*25*15cm/5000=3.75kg).
What reasons will affect the cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA ?
Different billable weight
Cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA may be influenced by the amount of space it takes up on the plane rather than actual weight. This is the volumetric (or dimensional) weight.
The dimensional weight or dimensional weight is calculated and compared to the actual weight of the shipment to determine which is greater; the higher weight is used to calculate shipping costs.
Volumetric Weight = Length x Width x Height / Volume Divisor*
* The standard volume divisor for weight (kg) and dimensions (cm) for air express is 5000
* The standard volume divisor for weight (kg) and dimensions (cm) for air or sea shipments is 6000
Therefore, the maximum weight between the actual weight and the dimensional weight will be the chargeable weight. The more billable weight, the higher the cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA.
Different Amazon FBA warehouse addresses
After creating your Amazon shipment in your Amazon Seller Central, the Amazon system will tell you your Amazon FBA warehouse. Then different warehouses may result in different cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA.
Or suppose you need to send Amazon FBA in the United States, then
Shipping to Western US (ZIP codes starting with 7, 8, 9)
Shipping to Central US (ZIP codes starting with 4, 5, 6)
Shipping to Eastern US (ZIP codes start with 0, 1, 2, 3)
Will result in different shipping charges. If the goods are shipped from China, according to the transportation distance, the shipping cost is US East > US Central > US West
The different outer box size
It is still assumed that the goods are shipped from China to Amazon FBA in the United States.
The actual weight of the items in an outer box is controlled at 10~30Kg (if it exceeds, it needs to be confirmed in advance to avoid rejection or increase the cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA.
The longest side of the outer box is less than 120CM, the shortest side is less than 75CM, and the shortest side*2+longest side is less than 330CM (if it exceeds, it needs to be confirmed in advance to avoid rejection or additional costs).
Different items
If you choose DDP service, it will result in different shipping charges as different items may result in different import duties and different handling charges.
Different services
If you need your shipping company to do some additional services for you, such as attaching FNSKU labels or inserting some documents in the package, it will result in different cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA.
